Pregnancy is a journey — some parts are breathtaking, beautiful, and magical, while some parts leave you feeling like an outer shell of yourself. The need and desire to feel like your pre-pregnancy self is 100 percent natural and normal. Unfortunately for many postpartum women, there is a lack of support, understanding, and medical care leaving new mothers susceptible to a plethora of core and pelvic floor conditions that not only impact their physical health but also their mental well-being.
One of the most common conditions that impact pregnant women is Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA). It is so common in fact that according to BMC Women’s Health, 30% to 68% of postpartum women experience this condition where their abdominal muscles separate causing low back pain, incontinence, weak core muscles, pain during sexual intercourse, and the all-to-common “mom pouch.”
At One Core Repair, we have been there. We have been that sleep-deprived mom putting everyone’s needs above their own. No matter if your pregnancy was easy or hard, we are here to validate your individual experience and help you get back to a better version of yourself both physically and mentally. Keep reading to learn more about Diastasis Recti and how our program can help you heal.

What is Diastasis Recti?
As your body grows to accommodate your growing baby, the rectus abdominis muscles (the “six-pack”) which are connected by a special tissue called the linea alba, stretch becoming quite thin. For some women, this tissue rebounds back after six to eight weeks postpartum, but for others, this tissue remains stretched long after pregnancy — leading to issues of core stability and weakness. If your child was born via C-section, this line of connective tissue is cut and sutured back up adding to your core weakness.

What Does it Mean to Heal Diastasis Recti?
At One Core Repair, we are dedicated to helping women heal their Diastasis Recti, regaining their strength and confidence so they can get back to what truly matters in life — making memories with their family. But what exactly does healing this condition mean? The ultimate goal for healing Diastasis Recti is to restore function to the connective tissues between the abdominal muscles through core training and specific Diastasis Recti exercises during our program.
